DALLAS, Texas — A 19-year-old Myanmar youth, Sangling Thabawi, was arrested on August 12, 2026, for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, standardly classified as vehicle theft under state law.
Public court records indicate Thabawi was already facing unresolved charges stemming from a prior booking on January 10, 2026, involving property theft valued between $750 and $2,500.
Following his recent arrest, authorities remanded Thabawi into custody at the Dallas County Jail without bond. Under Texas Penal Code § 31.07, unauthorized operation of a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent is prosecuted as a state jail felony, punishable by 180 days to two years in a state jail facility and fines of up to $10,000.
He is scheduled to appear in Dallas County court for preliminary hearings in the coming weeks.
