
Author Levi Sap Nei Thang experienced a medical emergency while attending the FIFA World Cup match between Argentina and Algeria in the Kansas City area to watch football icon Lionel Messi.
According to Thang’s Facebook, she began feeling unwell inside the stadium as temperatures rose. Realizing she was having difficulty breathing, she sought help from nearby spectators and then from stadium security.
Medical personnel responded immediately and transported her for emergency evaluation. According to Thang, her blood pressure reportedly dropped to approximately 34/58, requiring urgent treatment, intravenous fluids, and cooling measures. She said medical staff placed ice packs on her body to lower her temperature and stabilize her condition.
Despite the frightening experience, Thang remained determined to return and watch Messi play after receiving medical treatment.
“I wanted to see Messi, but I was really there because my younger brother is such a devoted Messi supporter,” Thang said. “I wanted to experience the match for him.”
She expressed appreciation to the stadium security team, emergency medical personnel, and fellow spectators who assisted her during the incident.
Although the day began with an unexpected medical emergency, it ended with Thang being able to witness Messi on the field, turning a difficult experience into a memorable one.
“I fainted, went to the emergency room, and still came back to see Messi play,” Thang said with a smile.
The match will be remembered by Thang not only for the football, but also for the kindness of strangers and the dedication of the medical professionals who helped her through a potentially dangerous situation.
